What files can I use?

GPX, from anything. Garmin, Wahoo, Suunto, Coros, Polar, a Strava export, a Komoot export, a phone app — if it writes a GPX file, Adret reads it. There is no account to connect and no platform to ask permission from.

Do I need to connect Strava?

Accepted Answer

No, and that is deliberate. Strava has restricted API access before with little notice, and a product that depends on it breaks when that happens. Connecting Strava or Komoot may arrive later as a convenience, never as a requirement.

What resolution do I get?

The free export is 1080×1920 — vertical, sized for a story. The paid tier renders the same poster at 300 dpi for A3 and A2. Because every dimension in a style is a fraction of the canvas rather than a pixel count, the two are the same design at different sizes, not two designs.

Can I print it?

Accepted Answer

Yes — the high-resolution export is a print file, and you can take it to any printer you like. Printing, framing and delivering it for you is a later step through a print partner; Adret is not going to run a print shop.

What happens to my GPX?

It is used to draw your poster and nothing else. There is no feed, no leaderboard, no profile and nobody else can see your route. This site itself collects nothing at all — no analytics, no account, no third-party embeds.

Where does the map data come from?

Accepted Answer

The terrain comes from open elevation data, and the roads, rivers, lakes, forests, paths, summits and refuges come from OpenStreetMap — an open map built by hundreds of thousands of contributors. Every poster carries the OpenStreetMap credit, because the licence requires it and because the work deserves it.

Why not just use map tiles?

Because tiles come pre-styled, and a poster made from someone else’s tiles can only ever look like their map with a line on it. Drawing from raw data means choosing every weight, every colour and where the sun is — which is the entire point. It is more work, and it is the only part of this that is hard to copy.

Does it work outside France?

Accepted Answer

Anywhere. The elevation data is global and OpenStreetMap covers the world. The site is in French and English because that is where it starts, not because the maps are.

Is there a phone app?

One is being built. The idea is the part nobody does well yet: a genuinely good vertical image, from the phone, in three taps, right after the activity — rather than a poster you sit down at a desk to make once a year.

When can I use it?

Accepted Answer

Not yet. Adret is a solo project built about three days a week, and the renderer came first because the visual quality is the whole product. This site exists so there is somewhere to follow it.
